Rush May Have Something Here

Back when I was in junior high school I took band class and the school scheduled us for a concert.
They sent out fliers and the gym was packed with families waiting to hear their little darlings play their instruments and take pictures.
But, before we were allowed to play the PTA decided to have a meeting before and elect new officers...which would have been alright except the fliers sent out said nothing about a PTA meeting before hand.
If they wanted community input they got plenty of it and it wasn't good.
They believed they could hold those families as a captive audience and they would endure an hour or so of dry PTA business.
They were wrong.
Rush Limbaugh's observation reminded me of incident.

RUSH LIMBAUGH: GUN, GAYS, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AGENDAS WILL BE 'THE DEATH' OF NFL
On his Friday show, conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh reacted to the previous evening’s monologue from CBS announcer James Brown during the pregame show of the Pittsburgh Steelers-Baltimore Ravens football game.
In that monologue, Brown offered a number of suggestions for his viewing audience that would somehow stymy the spread of domestic violence. However, Limbaugh decried Brown using his CBS platform for such monologue, arguing that wasn’t the time nor the place for such a lecture.
Then he went on to say that combined with other hot-button issues surrounding the NFL, including the 2012 murder-suicide of Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend, the name of the Washington Redskins and the entry of Michael Sam, the first openly gay player drafted by an NFL team would be the end of the NFL.
“Sorry, this is not why I watch football,” Limbaugh said. “This is going to be the death of this sport. It is no longer an escape. It is no longer about great athletes. It is no longer about amazing athletic achievement and drama. It’s now become about guns and gays and domestic violence.~snip~
He's got a point I mean maybe I missed it but I don't recall hearing or reading about anyone saying that they hope Bob Costas gives us what for on gun violence or raving about ESPN and their coverage of Micheal Sam.
I've been a fan of the NFL long before the pregame and half time portions of the game became another outlet of progressive/leftist propaganda. It's not like there isn't tons of other venues out there ready to expose the leagues short comings or how all football fans are racist, violent, gun toting homophobes.
But to become a captive audience to being slurred just because I want to watch a game on TV to entertain myself for a few hours is a bit much.
We can either push back against it or turn it off and at this point I don't think it makes much difference to me either way.

Irritating Things About the NFL

Plenty of info here.
Bob Costa's periodic lectures aside I personally think it's about time that the networks get rid of their overpaid, pompous , blow dried talking heads during football games.

I've felt this way for a long time, mostly because these guys really don't add anything to the game and their obvious "bromances" for certain quarterbacks gets pretty tedious. It's not a new thing.

Troy Aikman was the recipient of many broadcast booth admirations from afar, now it's Tom Brady and Tony Romo (to name a couple) who can do no wrong.
Not that I have anything against those two guys but the way they're slobbered over in the press booth, along with others, gets embarrassing at times and distracts from the game.

Now I know a lot of people will suggest that I just mute the TV and eliminate the distraction completely but without the crowd noise and the sounds of the game it's just not as exciting. Entertainment and excitement is why I watch the game.
On the very rare occasions when the announcers booth has gotten a technical glitch and their microphones go silent the sounds of the game without the droning commentary has been bliss.
There's more than enough information displayed nowadays to make play by play commentary moot.
You can see the score, what down it is, yards to go, the play clock and scrolling info that can keep you up to date on other games throughout the day.
Hell the refs are even fitted with wireless microphones so you can hear what their call is.

If you want to massage the talking heads egos then let them prattle on during halftime, at least then we can do something useful like go to the bathroom, get a snack or another beer.

It's about time the networks give the fans a break from these pompous jackasses, just because you hired them don't mean the rest of have to suffer.

White Liberal Bob Costas Offended by Redskins

Possibly the lowest hanging fruit when it comes to TV talking heads is "sportscasters". Being lectured to by one of them is roughly equivalent to having a democrat tell someone about the constitution.
Yet here is good old Bob Costas explaining about how painful the Washington Redskins name is to an audience that's made up of at least 50% of viewers who are fans of the team.
While he enjoys a fat paycheck for bobbing his head and moving his lips at half time during said game.
Over an issue that, except for the Washington Post, the majority of people couldn't care less about.
Have the people spoken?

I hate to spring it on this self righteous douche bag but football is entertainment, people watch the game to be entertained not watch some smug has been lecture them on their insensitivity.
Note for NBC, If Costas wants to get his smug on then tell him to write a blog post or letter to the editor, instead of pissing people off by droning on about nothing on your dime.
Also Bob, next time you feel like hanging your hypocrisy out there for the entire world to see just take a sniff of your own smugness and leave the rest of us alone.
