3 Ways Cancer Scientist Tim Hunt’s Social Media Mob Went Too Far

Sir Richard Timothy Hunt is a British biochemist who won a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering protein molecules that control the division of cells. He was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1991, was awarded the Royal Medal for his work on cell cycle control and was knighted by the Queen. He’s worked on cancer research for decades.
Last week, he was speaking at the 2015 World Conference of Science Journalists at a lunch for female journalists and scientists. He said something he claims was meant as a joke, but that went over like a lead balloon:

“Let me tell you about my trouble with girls … three things happen when they are in the lab … You fall in love with them, they fall in love with you and when you criticize them, they cry.”

We’ll skip to the aftermath. Hunt was forced out of his position at University College London as well as from the Royal Society’s Biological Sciences Awards Committee and forced to step down from the European Research Center.~snip~

What we have here are a bunch of self righteous assholes running off one of the best and brightest simply because they were "offended".
How many times will something like this happen?
There's a whole group of "social justice warriors" out there hanging on every word uttered hoping for something to be offended about so they can puff themselves up because they have so much "power".
So now here's a guy who is the top in his field researching CANCER who has been driven from his work.

Boy that'll teach us, won't it?

Sebelius and the Arrogance of the Ruling Class

In the private sector if an employer has a an employee who is not responsive to their customers then it's a wise employer who fires the one and hires another that will actually take responsibility for the job they're hired to do. (with the possible exception of single franchised utilities, try reasoning with an electric utility worker)
That's because the salaries are derived from the voluntary use or purchases of what that private business offers.
However when government confiscates revenue at will from earners and uses it to pay the salaries of arrogant, self-important, appointed civil servants their salaries aren't dependent on a customers good will.
What happens then is the arrogance of unaccountability.
Sebelius thinks she doesn't have to answer to congress, sort of like Lois Lerner.

Looking down at the little people.

They're civil servants and the government has mandated that we use their services so we have no choice but to pay their salaries and take it when they tell us to pound sand.

This ain't a new thing but it has come into full display because of the current occupant of the White House who's basically set the tone for open disdain of the citizens of this country.

What they're saying to us is we have to take their mediocrity and incompetence and there ain't a damn thing we can do about it.

Elections do have consequences you know.
